61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Sunday March 12, 2017 the Cor Unum International English Speaking Novitiate community traveled from our home city Chicago to New York City in order to attend the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

When the General Assembly designated July 30th of each year, beginning in 2014, as World Day against Trafficking in Persons, it put the spotlight on one of the most heinous crimes. The General Assembly gave as rationale for this new international day “the need for raising awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of their rights.”

Women’s Day in Torpa

The theme for International Women’s Day 2013 in Torpa (India) was Trafficking of Women. Around 2,000 women from around Torpa and Rania participated in this event. Two hundred women from very interior villages came to our Center for Women Development (CWD) the previous evening and stayed overnight.

Launch of "UN Women"

The official launch of UN Women – United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, took place on February 24, 2011. Under the motto “We are UN Women” a festive evening unfolded – it was joyful in atmosphere, feminine in colors, and promise-inspiring because of the energy. It was still the first week of the annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women so hundreds of women, literally from all corners of the world, filled the General Assembly Hall.
